Herbal Supplement Safety Guidelines
Before you
use any type of herb that you are not familiar with, you should
do some research in order to learn about its medicinal properties.
Research it thoroughly and also be sure to consult with an appropriately
qualified practitioner or expert, preferably your family doctor.
If
you happen to be taking any type of prescription drugs, or if
you have some type of a medical condition, check with your doctor
before using any type of herbal supplements.
Research
has shown that herbs do work. When you find an herb that works
for you, you may be inclined to think that if a little bit works
then perhaps a lot will do even better. Just because a small amount
works well does NOT mean that more is better. Different people
have different constitutions, sensitivities, allergic reactions
and possible health conditions.
The following
information is merely a guideline. They include herbs offered
on our websites. This information does not help with possible
interactions and contraindications with prescription medicine.
You should discuss this with your physician.
Caution:
Do not use BreastSuccess if you are pregnant, nursing, or have
any of the following conditions: high blood pressure, heart disease,
thyroid disease, glaucoma, diabetes, difficulty urinating due
to prostate enlargement, or if you are now taking a prescription
monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (certain drugs for depression,
psychiatric or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease),
or for two (2) weeks after stopping the MAOI drug. If you are
uncertain whether your prescription drug contains an MAOI, consult
a physician before taking this product. Do not exceed recommended
dosage.
Herbal supplements
may not be completely free of risk under certain circumstances.
If you are pregnant, nursing a baby, or have a chronic medical
condition, such as, diabetes, hypertension or heart disease, be
sure to consult with your doctor or pharmacist before you buy
or take any supplement. While vitamin and mineral supplements
are widely used and generally considered safe, you may wish to
check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking these or any
other dietary supplements. Many supplements can contain active
ingredients that have strong biological effects and the safety
of their use is not always guaranteed for everyone. If you have
certain health conditions and take these products, you may be
placing yourself at risk.
Taking a
combination of supplements or using these products together with
medications (whether prescription or OTC drugs) could under certain
circumstances produce adverse effects. Be alert to advisories
about these products, whether taken alone or in combination. It
is important to fully inform your doctor about the vitamins, minerals,
herbals or any other supplements you are taking, especially before
elective surgery. You may be asked to stop taking these products
at least 2-3 weeks ahead of the procedure to avoid potentially
dangerous supplement/drug interactions -- such as changes in heart
rate, blood pressure and increased bleeding - that could adversely
affect the outcome of your surgery.
